How to Replace Rollers on Garage Doors

These instructions are only for replacing the roller that is supported by the top fixture. This roller can be found at the top of the door. On most garage doors, it is located on the curved portion of the track, as shown. Separate tutorials provide instructions on replacing the bottom roller and replacing a roller in the middle of the door.

Caution: Do not use these instructions to replace the roller that is secured by the bottom bracket.

How to Replace Top Garage Door Rollers



Get it right the first time!


1. Remove the bolt that secures the roller retainer to the rest of the top fixture. How to Replace Rollers
How to Replace Rollers 2. Remove the roller and retainer from the top fixture. To remove the roller from the track, you will need to angle the stem toward the inside of the garage.
3. Insert the new roller in the roller retainer. How to Replace Rollers
How to Replace Rollers 4. Insert the new roller in the track. Again, you will need to angle the roller toward the inside of the garage for it to enter the track. Secure the retainer.
